Το 2008 η Τουρκία με την έγκριση του Κοινοβουλίου ξεκίνησε τη διαδικασία για την απόκτηση 100 μαχητικών F-35. Το χρονοδιάγραμμα του προγράμματος μπορεί να αλλάξει, αλλά η βαριά βιομηχανία της χώρας συμμετέχει ουσιαστικά πλέον στο πρόγραμμα.
